Former University of Washington star Quincy Pondexter and Tacoma kid Avery Bradley are the two local guys who’ll likely be picked in today’s NBA draft (4 p.m., ESPN). Charles Garcia, who starred for Seattle U last year, is also in the draft hopper.
Bradley is a likely first-rounder. Pondexter is projected as a late-first rounder. Garcia’s just hoping to get drafted at all. Pondexter’s situation is the most fascinating. Should he go in the first 30 picks, he’ll be guaranteed a two-year contract worth, at worst, $1.8 million. If he’s picked 31st or later? Guaranteed nothing.
Meanwhile, five of the six mock drafts I checked have Bradley going to the Oklahoma City Thunder (a.k.a. the Zombie Sonics), which makes me turn bright red and want to hit something.
Here’s where the various mock draft say our local kids will get picked.
ESPN (insider only): Bradley #19 to BOS; Pondexter #30 to WAS, Garcia one of last five out.
DraftExpress: Bradley #18 to OKC; Pondexter #29 to Orlando; Garcia undrafted.
NBADraft.net: Bradley #18 to OKC, Pondexter #39 to NYC; Garcia undrafted.
Sporting News (first round only): Bradley #21 to OKC; Pondexter #29 to ORL.
Sports Illustrated (first round only): Bradley #18 to OKC; Pondexter #25 to MEM.
Yahoo Sports / Ball Don’t Lie (first round only): Bradley #18 to OKC, Pondexter #25 to MEM.
