Are We Not Film? SIFF DocFest returns this week

By some mystery in the time-space continuum that’s too advanced for me, my calendar tells me it’s already October 2. I swear it was like mid-June the other day. Anyway, tomorrow begins one of my favorite mini-festivals in Seattle: SIFF’s annual DocFest. It’s a week-long festival celebrating some of the best new-ish documentaries out there (and in true Seattle fashion, this week goes from Thursday to Thursday, so it is actually eight days long).

The lineup looks quite good, with movies about a wide variety of topics, many timely with current events, including a documentary about trying to move animals from a beloved Ukrainian zoo before the Russian invasion, one about the new wave music scene in Vietnam in the 1980’s, witches, and female long-haul truckers.

For me, nothing has piqued my interest more than Chris Smith’s rock doc about the greatest band to ever come from Akron, OH: Devo. It’s been a hit on the festival circuit, as well as with Devo fans across the US. I’m one of those devoted fans and I’m thisclose to understanding what de-evolution is. Now to figure out what color Energy Dome I should wear to the screening.

Take a gander for yourself at the schedule and ticket info, and all that jazz.
