Roundtable: 2026 Oscar Picks and Predictions

It’s that time again! We all picked our favorites at the end of the year; the guilds have spoken; critics groups have doled out their laurels (and/or fishes); and now, nearly a quarter of the way through 2026 (Thanks, Olympics), it’s finally time for the Academy to put a bow on the movies of 2025 with the Oscars. In advance of Sunday’s telecast – hosted once again by Conan O’Brien – airing at 4:00 PDT on ABC and Hulu (thanks, East Coast), your friends at the SunBreak gathered ’round the old roundtable to make our predictions on how the awards will (and should) go when all’s said and done.

Wes Anderson spins a timely yarn with The Phoenician Scheme

Wes Anderson movies are a genre unto themselves, often misunderstood as shallow, whimsical dioramas. That some fail to see the immense emotion beneath the ornately hand-crafted surfaces and trademark camera positioning and movement remains a matter of great mystery to those of us who eagerly watch and rewatch each film and revisit the old ones to find new depths. His latest, The Phoenician Scheme, is unlikely to change that perception, but to me it’s another unqualified success.
