Telluride kicks off 51st SHOW with lineup drop, tribute announcements

The most mysterious of the big fall film festivals, Telluride keeps its lineup an under wraps until festivalgoers are arriving in the San Juan mountain town. Sure enough after months of speculation, the lineup dropped in my inbox just as I was waking up, acclimating to the high altitude, and thinking about where to get coffee (RIP Ghost Town), providing a rich buffet of selections for the Labor Day weekend of moviegoing.

Even if you’re not making the trek to the charming box canyon as it transforms into a cinephile paradise, the selection of films becomes an instant roadmap for the rest of the year’s must-see movies.

In contrast to last year’s festival, which took place during the strikes, this year’s program looks like it will provide opportunities actors to make a visit to town to support their work. Running into celebrities on gondolas or in quaint bars might be back on the menu!

As part of its programming, the festival will pay tribute to French filmmaker Jacques Audiard (here with EMILIA PÉREZ); Academy Award-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan (here with THE OUTRUN); and Oscar winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker. Each will receive the Silver Medallion in a program featuring conversations and clips.

The main program is listed below, stay tuned throughout the weekend for dispatches on the films themselves!
